Relative Compression Testing | New Training Module

Relative compression testing is performed using an oscilloscope to measure engine parameters related to cylinder cranking pressures, displaying them in a way that reflects overall engine condition.

This type of testing is designed as an initial check – the outcome will help you decide whether the fault lies in the fuel, ignition or mechanical engine components.

In the first addition to our new course on Advanced Oscilloscope Techniques, we take a close look at relative compression testing performed using an oscilloscope.

The topics covered in this training module include:

  • The different types of relative compression tests available to technicians
  • How to best set the oscilloscope for interpretation
  • How to use a pulse sensor in the engine crankcase
  • What type of sync signal to use to verify cylinder position within a cycle

This module will be the latest addition to our growing library of over 350 technical training videos, covering the following key areas:

Electrical   |   Engine   |   Chassis   |   Drivetrain   |   Driver Assist
HVAC   |   Diagnostics   |   Servicing   |   Hybrid & Electric Vehicles
